Ezzy Legacy - Freewave
The Delta Quick Review: To David Ezzy his Legacy sail is built with a minimalist philosophy to help control costs. From other brands the Legacy would be a high end sail with focused attention to detail.
Ezzy's high-end products are built without compromise. They take the idea of adding up marginal gains to a level unmatched in the industry. But David does realize that some of the gains are more marginal than others. With the Legacy he's left out the construction details that gain the least.
Some of details are easily overlooked and make no difference at all performance wise. Things like the missing neoprene segment in the head, and ruler built into the tack strap. The more noticeable changes are material choices, like the use of X-ply in the top of the sail instead of the high-end Dynema scrim used on other models. Oh, and there's also the thinner sail bag material. Added up this means the Legacy is merely a sail that compares well to ones from other brands instead of putting them to shame.
The pay off is that you get an impressive sail for way less money. But this wouldn't matter if the sail design was crap. So, Ezzy ensured performance using the exact same sail designs as his other models. Most sizes are exact copies of the 2016 Tiger, while the 2 largest are slightly modified Cheetah's. This way you get all the power and stability that Ezzy's are know for, without the higher price tag.
In an effort to improve the collection, David gave the new Legacy a more controllable feel across a wider wind spectrum. The new Legacy is also stronger. High density Spectra X Film is now used on the tack panel as well as the use of a combination of RBS epoxy battens and traditional battens.
The mantra of the Legacy is the same as its inception. The Legacy Series is designed to offer a more economically priced option for sailors that demand the reputable Ezzy quality. The Legacy Sails deliver sublime performance and durability but we trim the costs by eliminating some of the extra bells and whistles.
The smaller Legacy’s are designed for wave and bump & jump. The larger sizes are built for freeride blasting.
At the heart of it, the Legacy is ready to go to battle for anyone…from the PWA circuit (Graham Ezzy's sail of choice for light wind competition) to recreational enthusiasts.
"The Legacy has everything you need and nothing you don't need. The Legacy reminds me of the days when I was getting full-on custom sails built for competition, they had none of the marketing b.s. that people think they need but don't really. This sail is a classic Ezzy design, pure and simple. "
