Starboard Kode FreeWave

The Delta Quick Review: Every brand puts a lot of focus into their Freestyle Wave, yet while all these boards are all meant for similar riders it seems every brand comes at their design in different ways. Quatro comes at it by making faster wave boards. Exocet feels that what most people want is simply really to use board that's fun to sail. Patrik makes their freestyle wave for all out performance, but if your ability does match what the board's capable of you'll never know it. In the Kode what you've got is balance. Balance in what's good about all the other freestyle waves on the market. The Kode has impressive speed and quick planing, but not at to the point that it sacrifices control and ease of use. With thruster fins the rail holds in a gybe or on a swell, but there's still a playfulness that lets you change the arc mid-turn or see if you can make the next one even tighter. The Kode truly is the all-around shape you'd expect of a Freestyle Wave.

A FAVORITE

Winner of the 2017 PlancheMag test, the Kode FreeWave is our fast wave, freestyle and freeride cross-over board. Each size is designed to ride in either thruster fin setup for more maneuverability and grip or single fin configuration for speed.

The smallest size (86) is delivered with a set of thruster fins that combines a MFC TF 19 center fin with Drake Natural Wave 11 side fins for a blend of speed, grip, maneuverability and stability in all conditions. The bigger sizes (94, 103 and 109) are delivered with the new MFC FreeWave single fin for more speed, more directional stability and earlier planing. A reference and a favorite in the freewave segment.

The Kode FreeWave have all-new shapes across the range for 2018 that are on average 3 cm shorter for extra maneuverability, control and a more compact feeling. New double concave distribution adds crispness, comfort through chop and extra grip in the turns.

SHORTER OUTLINES

The new 2018 Kode FreeWaves are up to 4 cm shorter than the previous generation boards, for lengths around 230 cm.
Having a shorter, more compact outline improves maneuverability, responsiveness as well as comfort by reducing swing weight.
We avoided making them much shorter, not to lose a favourite characteristic of the Kode FreeWaves: traction and directional stability.

BOTTOM SHAPE

Starboard's 'spiralling Vee' bottom shape concept combined with a new double concave distribution gives the Kode FreeWaves their responsiveness, grip, reactivity and comfort.
The concaves are slightly shallower compared to the previous models and more evenly distributed throughout the bottom.

BULLET-NOSE ROCKER

Everything is built around a fast rocker with a low nose angle to reduce drag, maximize control and top speed.
A flat section between the mast track and front footstrap promotes early planing. Just the right amount of tail kick makes for responsive wave riding.

THIN AND SHARP RAILS

Rails are soft and thin in the nose for a smooth entry into turns without chatter, allowing you to focus on exiting the turn with speed.
Sharper rails in the mid and back sections enhance grip, control and drive in the turns. Sharp rails also help to get the board planing quicker, with better water release.

FIN SETUP

Single or thruster. You choose.
The Kode FreeWaves come with two StarBox, one US box and plugs to suit your preferred fin set up.
The StarBox system allows to fit Slot Box fins in five seconds, remembers your last settings to get you faster on the water and is also compatible with US box fins.

DELUXE FOOTSTRAPS AND PADS

The Kode FreeWaves are fitted with 10mm thick Sponge pads that provides comfort over extended sessions and confidence to go higher.
For 2018, the new iteration of the Drake Deluxe footstraps use a RPET 450D cover made from recycled PET bottles by Waste2Wear and feature strap-size indicators for easy adjustments on the go.

CARBON L.C.F.

The Kode FreeWaves are available in three technologies: Carbon Reflex, our Flax Balsa construction and our new Carbon L.C.F. technology designed for the lightest weight but also the lowest carbon footprint.
At 86 kg of CO2 emissions for a 117 liter board, Carbon L.C.F. is our most environmentally-friendly board yet, using bio resin and our exclusive end-grain Balsa sandwich core instead of conventional PVC.
